Scissor Lift Safety: Dos and Don’ts
A scissor lift is one of the safest elevated-work machines when used correctly, because it rises straight up on a wide base. Most incidents come from unsuitable ground or exceeding the platform limits.
Before going up
- Level, stable ground with no holes, openings, or slopes.
- Check the guardrails, platform gate, and emergency stop.
- Confirm the allowed platform capacity on the data plate, covering people and tools together.
On the platform
- Always stay inside the guardrails; never stand on them or use a ladder on the platform.
- Do not lean or reach far outside the platform to make up for missing height — order a taller size.
- Do not drive with the platform raised unless the model is designed for it, following its instructions.
Outdoors
- Indoor models are not built for wind and outdoor ground; use diesel models for outdoor sites.
- Stop work when wind exceeds the limit in the model instructions.
Every Al-Fareed scissor lift is inspected before rental. Compare scissor lift sizes.
